The Hilton Library Exhibit “Collection” Call for entries

The library has an excellent exhibit space for up to 36 photos which we have used many times and is available from December 11, 2023, to January 5, 2024. This time frame should be good for holiday shopping.

A Call for Entries Registration will open on our web site November 1. Each photographer will be allowed up to two photos. If more than 36 photos are registered the final entries will be selected on a first come first served basis. The theme will be open, and the maximum size will be a 16×20” frame. Other mediums like glass, metal and canvas can be 16×20” unframed.  All works must have a hanging wire on the back to accommodate the hanging system hooks in the gallery. There will not be a hanging fee or a commission on the sales of works. Based on past experience a price of $150-$200 is a guide for this exhibit, but the price is certainly up to the individual. Sales will be coordinated by John Parsons. Thus, only the title, price and name of the photographer will be shown to the public on the wall labels. Registration will close on December 6.  Exhibitors will deliver their images between 10 and noon on Monday December 11th. The exhibit will close on January 5 when exhibitors will be picking up their works between 10 and noon. We will be recruiting helpers to produce an entry poster and name for the exhibit.

Congratulations to the 2023 Kurtzberg winners!

The Kurtzberg Competition is held annually for Hilton Head Island High school students.  This year 58 images were submitted to CCHHI for consideration in the annual Larry Kurtzberg Photo Competition.

This year’s winners and their winning photographs are:

First Place                            Maya Gozlin                       “Jane”

Second Place                      Madison Hall                      “Serenity”

Third Place                          Kaitlyn Sobocinski            “Trough”

Honorable Mention           Nayeli Chirino                    “Fate”

The students, their parents, Photography Instructor Patty Schoelkopf and HHIHS Principal Steve Schidrich attended the April meeting for the presentation of the monetary awards and certificates.

All images were judged by a 6-member  CCHHI panel on a ten-point system:  Technical Criteria (2 points), Visual and aesthetic criteria (2 points), Content (2 points) and General Characteristics (4 points).

The Kurtzberg Awards were created in 1998 and are presented annually by the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island in honor of the club’s founder, Larry Kurtzberg.  The club sponsored contest is open to students at Hilton Head Island High School.

The awards are First Place – $150, Second Place – $125, Third Place – $100, and Honorable Mention – $50.
