Congaree National Park and Columbia Riverbanks Zoo-CANCELLED
June 5 - June 6
WE WILL RESHEDULE THE COLUMBIA RIVERBANKS ZOO PORTION AS A DAY TRIP IN THE FALLJune 5 and 6-Congaree National Park and Columbia Zoo- The 26,000 acre park is known for its 90 species of trees such as the Bald Cypress (10 foot high knees), Loblolly Pines (Americas largest at 170’) elms, hickories, maples and oaks. All of this is best seen from the 21/2 mile boardwalk. The colorful 5”wide Golden silk orb weaver spider can also be seen form the boardwalk. Each May the fireflies put on a synchronized flashing display that is unparalleled in nature. This synchronous display occurs as they are searching for a mate and lasts for two weeks between mid-May and mid-June. Although very difficult to photograph, we will try. We will determine when this trip is to occur as time grows closer. There is no fee for the park. We will spend the night in Cayce SC near Columbia which is about 20 minutes from the park. The next morning we will visit the wonderful Riverbanks Zoo with over 2000 animals in recently renovated settings and botanic gardens. We will have lunch there and return by 5. We have 10 free passes to the zoo The fee for the zoo is $16 for adults and $15 for seniors.
